2 more weeks

wow!
Just 2 more weeks.
It'll be over.
Labor day is September 1st. we got robbed this year.
Georgia's news is disturbing and we were expected somethin' that will happens.
Is solution the only war?
In march 5th, I got news from times and says:
The New York Times announced Monday (March 3rd 2008)that defense contractor United Technologies had made an unsolicited bid to take control of Diebold, the voting machine manufacturer. UTC first approached Diebold two years ago, but thankfully Diebold has and continues to reject its offers.
But the most interesting and frightening part of this story is in the connection between the attempted takeover of a voting machine manufacturer and the Republican candidate John McCain.
Uber-lobbyist Charlie Black is the chairman of BKSH a 'bipartisan' Washington based firm that provides government relations services to a number of Domestic and International clients. While he is on the BKSH payroll, Black lobbies in his spare time as well; His clients include General Motors, JPMorgan, AT&T and none other than United Technologies! But what Charlie Black is most well-known for is that he is chief political adviser to John McCain.
I personally believe that there is something very wrong with the the country when the man who advises the Republican candidate for president also advises the company trying a to take control of voting machines manufacturer. (unsuccessfully it must be said. I am not in the position to speculate about Diebold's involvement in the affair and am merely making a comment on the rather frightening connection between UTC and McCain.)

Japan

I haven't updated this blog for long time, it's been busy writing in English on Digital issue on some article.
The reason is nothing to write about daily life in English and also I kept writing in Japanese, it became routine.
Oh well.
It's boring.
My life in general, everything is digital cinema making.
I can write several books about digital life.
A few days ago, I had some errand to do in Japan.
It was like an old days, day-trip feeling; I can stand in Japan for maximum stay is 3 days.
If it's longer than 3 days, I don't go there.

RED ONE CAMERA TEST IS DONE
It's done; I've finished 2 long months technical test for RED ONE.
Also, I waited to get all my accessories, which I need for my shoot.
One more thing is EVF (Electric View Finder) is back order and I have to wait another few months.
The biggest withdraw is: I can't get prime lenses, which cost too much and drains my wallet pretty hard.
One master prime lens cost 30grand, I rather rent out from the rental house, when I need it.
So my filters are set, and minimum lighting is also all set.
I have some simple job is coming up this week; it'll my first try out job.
Hope, everything goes well.
This picture came from RED ONE's footage, I grab one frame.

Utsushi-e
Beverly Hills, CA - Celebrating the centuries-old Japanese magic lantern tradition of Utsushi-e - a blend of moving images, light, color, music, storytelling and traditional art - the Minwa-za Company of Tokyo will make its American premiere performance on Wednesday, July 2, at 8 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. The program, presented by the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will re-create and examine the uniquely Japanese art form using reproductions of lanterns and slides of the Edo era.
Led by Minwa-za of Tokyo director Fumio Yamagata, the evening will include a technical presentation on the inner workings of the Utsushi-e rear-projection technology as well as a demonstration of the skills required for a performance.
Created more than a century before the invention of film, Utsushi-e represents one of the earliest forms of projection technology and in many respects is a forerunner of modern filmmaking. In contrast to traditional Western magic lantern shows, which used single-lantern front projection, Japanese magic lantern shows relied on a combination of fixed and hand-held rear-projection techniques, drawing on some elements of European phantasmagoria and incorporating the traditions of Asian shadow shows and puppet theater.
© A.M.P.A.S.
Utsushi-e used six or more magic lanterns positioned behind a long semi-transparent paper screen. The lanterns and slides were constructed of balsa wood, making them lightweight and easy to manipulate; in some cases slides with moving parts were also used. Utsushi-e performers developed elaborate projection techniques whose effects might be described in filmmaking terms as cuts, fades, dissolves, double exposures and zooms.
Established in 2003 by the Academy's Board of Governors, the Science and Technology Council provides a forum for the exchange of information, promotes cooperation among diverse technological interests within the industry, sponsors publications, fosters educational activities and preserves the history of science and technology of motion pictures.
Tickets to "The Minwa-za Company of Tokyo" are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. Tickets are available for purchase by mail, at the Academy box office, or online at www.oscars.org. Doors open at 7 p.m. All seating is unreserved.
The Linwood Dunn Theater is located at 1313 Vine Street in Hollywood. Free parking is available through the entrance on Homewood Avenue (one block north of Fountain Avenue).

Playing with new toy
Since I got new camera that calls it "RED ONE," I'm blasting my time!
Well, truth is:
It's new technologies, and I'm learning everyday.
It's movie-making tool and it's digital tool, so it's a computer in a movie camera with real cine-lens on it.
It's RED DIGITAL CINEMA CAMERA.
It works like a 35 mm movie camera and without developing negative, I can see the result.
It calls digital cinema camera, it's not video camera.
The reason that it call digital cinema camera, the image is captured in a sensor that same as modern days video camera, but after captured by image sensor, all image became digital signal and converted complicated change the pattern of the algorithm to raw image recorded on a solid state media, it's like expensive single reflex digital still camera's raw capturing image.
If you know the fact, check:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAW_image_format
You can understand clearly.
So, I am very happy and doing lot of test shooting, and will be shoot first project in a month.
IT'S SO MUCH FUN!

After few years latter
From next week, I'll start using new camera, not Leica M8, I'll use Red One Digital Cinema Camera and will extract a few frame from digital file.
And I'll rename my company's name also, I could not use Antenna Films Incorporated anymore, because, Scott B's LA company registered the name before me, it's too bad.
I haven't checked registration's trade mark office yet.
I have to use my corporate until officially changed, but antenna means shipyard in old Greek, so I'll use antenna some place.
Funahara literally means shipyard.
I found happy old days photo with Mark and his funny happy friends.
It was happy days, indeed.

We do some fun stuff, which is witchy stuff, you know what I mean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. two day latter: This is bad, cause I don't remember when I wtote this one. I can see the time stamp, I had Absinthe (no memory at all).
04/19/08
Absinthe

I'm celebrating tonight.
It's an old french 19th century type stuff.
It said:
"Absinthe makes you crazy and criminal, provokes epilepsy and tuberculosis, and has killed thousands of French people.
It makes a ferocious beast of man, a martyr of woman, and a degenerate of the infant, it disorganizes and ruins the family and menaces the future of the country."
If it's true, I love it!
I drink for that!
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection literature, "The importation of Absinthe and any other liquors or liqueurs that contain Artemisia absinthium is prohibited," On the other hand, FDA regulations allow Artemisia species in foods or beverages, but those that contain Artemisia species, white cedar, oak moss, tansy or Yarrow, must be thujone free. Other herbs that contain thujone have no restrictions. For example, sage and sage oil (which can be almost 50% thujone) are on the FDA's list of substances generally recognized as safe.
The prevailing consensus of interpretation of United States law and regulations among American absinthe connoisseurs is that it is probably legal to purchase such a product for personal use in the US. It is prohibited to sell items meant for human consumption which contain thujone derived from Artemisia species. (This derives from a Food and Drug Administration regulation, as opposed to a DEA regulation.) Customs regulations specifically forbid the importation of 'absinthe'. Absinthe can be and occasionally is seized by United States Customs if it appears to be for human consumption and can be seized inside the US with a warrant.
A faux-absinthe liquor called Absente, made with southern wormwood (Artemisia abrotanum) instead of grande wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), is sold legally in the United States and does not contain grande wormwood. This was the first US approval referring to "absinthe" on the front label; the front label says "Absinthe Refined" but the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (T.T.B.) classified the product as liqueur.
In 2007, TTB relaxed the US absinthe ban, and approved several brands for sale. These brands must pass TTB testing, which is performed by the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry method and TTB considers a product to be thujone-free if the FDA's test measures less than 10ppm (equal to 10mg/kg) thujone. A US distillery also began producing and selling absinthe, the first US company to do so since 1912.
Now, it's available in this country!
CHEERS!

Back to USA

Man!
I was so tired in Japan.
I couldn't even buy coffee bean.
So, instead drinking real coffee, I drank Nescafe instant coffee.
My stomach was upset all the time in Japan, even now.
Sick to my stomach.
And I drank more coffee.
we are in KOBE
Until last year, I haven't met Ramo's daughter "Sanae."
I've met her for the first time at last year's reunion event that was held in Kobe.
Truthfully, it was very brief moment and we didn't have enough time to know each other.
My old budy "So-shi" and "Eiichiro-Bon" who they knew her since she was born, I never met her until now.
It's kind a strange to meet without her dad, but her mom "Mi-san" was there always. She grew up beautifully and she seems like that has her parent's both good sides.
This picture was taken by Ants Motoki in Kobe, a few nights ago.
(Inset photo: from right to left, Mi-san, Sanae-don, Me, Bon-Eiichiro, So-shi, Kyoka and unknown person.)

Zeiss SLR lenses
Another exciting news are Zeiss starts making SLR lenses,
Their press release said:
Carl Zeiss Announces Special Series of ZF Lenses
Optical systems for applications in the near infrared range
OBERKOCHEN/Germany - November 6, 2007.
Following the great success of the ZF lens series in industrial applications, Carl Zeiss now announces an additional model. The ZF-IR lenses were developed for special applications in the near infrared range. The Planar T* 1,4/85 ZF-IR and Distagon T* 2,8/25 ZF-IR are the first products in this special series of the familiar ZF lenses.
The Planar T* 1,4/85 ZF-IR and Distagon T* 2,8/25 ZF-IR lenses offer all the benefits of the ZF series. They feature a high-quality mechanical design, and their optical elements are made entirely of glass. The lenses are extremely fast and provide excellent contrast. The all-metal focusing device ensures precise and easy operation.
A special coating which is transmissible for wavelengths up to 1,100 nanometers is applied to enable photos in the near infrared range. Of course, the focusing scale has also been matched to this wavelength range. The ZF-IR lenses from Carl Zeiss are suitable for use with special cameras (IR cameras without a barrier filter). Application fields of technical IR photography include, in particular, forensic police tasks.
I am looking for quality and have edges, I'm very happily turn to "classic" lenses; many guys are looking for high-quality lenses for use on digital SLR cameras (DSLR) cameras - and manual focusing is also essential for me.
Digital SLR cameras, too, are turning to full size sensors which image the entire 35 mm format.
But in the case of many lenses, this just reveals the weaknesses around the edge of the picture.
To me, to get back into single ref stuff, I love to use Zeiss stuff and even I can use for my new Digital Cinema Camera.

"Todd, all of twenty-one years old, died in my arms"
- Slash of Guns N' Roses
Throughout his recently published biography, SLASH describes Todd Crew, of JETBOY fame, as his drug addicted best friend- the best friend he fervently tried to protect, but in the end, could not keep away from the thrill of the rock star lifestyle.
Slash paints a picture of Todd as a pushy dope fiend, dragging him through the streets of New York to score heroine and other drugs. He explains that the day of Todd's death he had tried to thwart his drug use but was "overruled". He claims that, while later that night he did inject Todd with heroine, he only did so because he could "tell it wasn't strong at all" performing the injection with the intent of regulating how much heroine Todd was given. Slash further goes on to say that Todd must have been shot up later by a fellow party go-er because "what I gave him wasn't strong enough to cause what happened".
However, Todd's former band mates and the members of a recently reunited Jetboy believe something entirely different happened that night.
I sat down with Jetboy who were close friends of Todd Crew, to get the bands opinion on the death of Todd and the comments made by Slash about the rock band Jetboy:
indiemusicreviews.net: In Slashs' biography he says he stayed with Todd while everyone left and that quote "he died in his arms". I understand you were told different information?
Jetboy: Absolutely...Slash is a Liar and he knows it. The few people that were their that night knows what really happened and that Slash is 100% full of shit. Todd OD' d twice that night we were told. The first time Slash didn't even bother calling 911. After they revived him for a minute everyone freaked out being high on dope and left (slash included) When they came back Todd was dead, that's when Slash finally called 911 when it was too late. It's a perfect alibi "I wasn't here, when I got back Todd was dead" Slash only cared about saving his own ass from criminal charges which is exactly what happened. Slash walked away with no repercussions.
indiemusicreviews.net So your saying that Slash killed Todd?
Jetboy: : Todd was killing himself but Slash definitely aided him in his demise, just read what he wrote In his book. This is what we believe happened.
* Todd arrived "fucking drunk" according to Slash at his hotel at 7am. Todd had just broken up with his long time girl friend and was distraught.
* Slash took him to a Western Union so he could get money to by Heroine
* Slash buys a bottle of Jim Beam (Todd's Choice of booze) after Todd can't even stand up straight and is falling down drunk
* Slash shoots Todd up with Heroine after Todd is according to Slash in his book "in no state to be messing with drugs"
* Slash and Todd go to the movies where Slash smuggles in a case of beer where they continue to drink excessively
* Slash and Todd go back to the hotel where Slash proceeds to shoot Todd up with more Heroine (todd had been drinking for 18 hours straight)
* Todd Od's the first time and Slash revives Todd temporarily but then panics and leaves instead of calling 911.
* Slash comes back to the Hotel room finds that Todd has over dosed again and finally calls 911 after it's too late. Now Slash has the perfect alibi "I wasn't here when it happened"
Jetboy: Slash claims in his book that he was the "only one who did everything possible to keep Todd Alive" Well, If your doing everything you can to keep someone alive" the last thing you do is shoot them up with heroine especially if you know that they have been drinking for 18 hours straight. You don't have to be Dr. Drew to know that the combination of Heroine with that level of alcohol is going to be bad news. Slash even said Todd "was in no state to be messing with drugs" but yet Slash shot him up with heroine and then abandoned him when he overdosed instead of calling 911 like he should have. We can't think of a more selfish act. Slash didn't care about anything but saving himself from criminal charges. Don't forget that Slash has a proven track record of freaking out in these types of the situations and not taking responsibility. If you read the Heroine Diaries by Nikki Sixx you will see that Slash freaks out and panics when Nikki Sixx OD' d and did nothing to help. He was even screaming Todds name while it happened. Bottom line Slash is a coward and It bothers us that Slash walked away with no repercussions after enabling and providing drugs and alcohol to someone as he said was "in no state to be messing with drugs" Slash knows the truth and he will have to live with the choices he made and the lies he told and is still telling to this day. He lied to us, he lied to the police, he lied to Todds friends and Family and he lied to his fans in his book. We think that Slash is in such denial that he probably believes his own BS because he has been telling these lies for so long. And to think he calls Todd all through his book, "my best friend' ? That is more Bull Shit.
indiemusicreviews.net: I'm sure you've checked out Slashs' biography. Were you surprised when he labeled you guys 'poseurs'?
Jetboy: "That's like the whole irony of everything when he says 'they (Jetboy) weren't as transparent' which is what I believe he says because we had a singer with a 'Mohawk' the first thing that comes to mind is 'Fuck you. that's not how it was back then and if you did feel that way then why did you do shows with us and both bands hang all the time' at the time, we backed each other up the two bands were very close. The reason he said that in the book is because he wanted to put us down and It's what Slash has done ever since because of the situation that happened with Todd, starting when Jetboy fired Todd up to his passing away which was six months after he was let go from Jetboy."
indiemusicreviews.net: Slash says in his book that you (jetboy) kicked Todd out of the band and replaced him with Sam Yaffa from Hanoi Rocks with little or nor discussion. Why was todd kicked out of the band?
Jetboy: We did fire Todd from the band, It was the choice we made after many talk's with him over his alcohol abuse. When Todd joined the band he was not a very big partier, wine coolers was his drink of choice. As time went on & the band started to do well Todd's drinking got worse and ended up with a bottle of Jim Beam everyday. Before we let Todd go our manager at the time approached Guns N' Roses to ask If they would join us to have an Intervention & get him help. Their answer was, he's fine you guys just don't like to party as much ? After our last attempt to talk with Todd which ended up with no change, we then made the decision to let him go, our management then contacted Sam Yaffa and he was Into the offer, Sam was In, Todd was out. This Is where the fued began & It would never be the same between Guns N' Roses and Jetboy ever again. Right after Todd had been fired from Jetboy things got really ugly between both bands, not all of the members It was really just three of them. When we would see each other out at clubs or shows It was just a bad vibe, Even friends, the G N' R hanger oners would give us attitude. It amazed us on how people just Involved themselves with other peoples business when they had no fucking clue what went on. And what the real fucked up part Is, none of those people really new the real Todd, the guy who was a good friend, smart, loving, caring and who came from a very good family. All they new was the Todd who loved to party, and that's really sad.
indiemusicreviews.net: Slash also says that you stole Todds equipment and refused to give it back. Any truth to that?
Jetboy: What happened was we had gotten an advance from Elektra records and each member bought some new gear. When Todd was fired, our manager let him take everything but the gear the label had just paid for, he got all his stuff back other than a new amp or something ?? Secondly, this was not our choice nor were we Involved In It, our management did all this. What's funny about this part of Slash's twisted little fairy tail In his book, Is maybe two years later Guns N' Roses fired their original drummer Steven Adler for drug abuse & they had Matt Sorum already set up to replace him. They then had Steven sign a contract which forfeited all his earnings from the day he was fired onward. We've always wondered what amount of money that added up to ?? We bet It was way more than some bass gear. So again, who the fuck Is this guy to judge us with something that Is none of his business ? talk about the pot calling the kettle black ! Look what his band did to his high school buddy Steven.
indiemusicreviews.net: Did Slash know todd had a problem with heroine? wasn't that why Todd was kicked out of the band?
Jetboy: The first thing Is, Todd did not have a problem with heroine, he had a problem with alcohol. Todd would dabble In drugs, but his choice was booze. So when they scored dope It was Slash who was the experienced one & was a dope user, he says this In his book. To think that Slash Is looked up to by so many people out there Is fucking disgusting.
indiemusicreviews.net: Slash talks about a goth band being there when Todd over dosed. Do you know who that was? Anyone Famous?
Jetboy: This we don't know anything about.
indiemusicreviews.net: Slash also eludes to possibly scoring the heroine that killed Todd at Chosei Funaharas bass player of the plasmatics house. Do you know anything about that? Would you blame Chosei in any way had that been the heroine that killed Todd?
Jetboy: This Is something we are not to sure enough to comment on.
indiemusicreviews.net: Did Todd's parents sue Slash? If so what happened with that?
Jetboy: I don't think so. It says In the book they had him Investigated but after Todd was fired we had little then no contact Slash or his parents from then on.
indiemusicreviews.net: Did you ever see a police report about this?
Jetboy: No, but It sure would be Interesting to see. With how things are today, twenty years later, I'm sure many questions about Todd's death could be answered.
indiemusicreviews.net: What would you say to Slash if you saw him today?
Jetboy: Hmmm, that's a tough one for us. It would be nice to have something positive said about Todd after all these years and drug stories, at the end of all this we lost a good friend who just took things a little to far and could not handle It. As for Slash, shame on you for going down this road twenty years ago with who you considered your best friend and for all the shit you've said about Jetboy on your way to the top and back down, fuck you! Why don't ya say It to our faces? Again, because he is the same coward now that he was back then.
By Marion Pierson
I've just found out this article, and I remembered that Todd and Slash came over to my house, because, Slash's another good friend Bernie Bernstein was staying with his girlfriend Violet who was my roommate that time. Guns'n Roses came to play at Ritz for New Music Seminar that year. Todd and Slash were drinking Jack Daniel or Jim Beam chaser with Buds, and they went to Brooklyn (to score? they didn't tell me) and they never came back.

It seems like I have to go to Japan at least 3 times in this year.
The worst time of year to travel around are just not once, there are two major holidays: one is around the New Year's from the last week of December to beginning of the first week of January and another one is the second week of August to the third week of August.
Do I have to be there?
No, not really, I travel a pretty much and I usually avoid those time and it's even in United States also.
I have to make some decision within a day or so.
I'll let you know what happening!

anoying effects

One critical thing that turn me off is: I saw Oprah Winfrey standing next to Illinois Senator Barack Obama on a stage this morning.
I don't against anything about Oprah Winfrey, but how powerful she is, and It's impossible to say how valuable an endorsement from Winfrey is, but she is very annoying effects to me.
She totally turns me off.
It's not her stage and she should not been there, so many people resent her existence and involve in politics. Just endorsement is different and she should not be upstaged.
Obama campaign officials said Winfrey's value didn't come from her ability to persuade voters so much as it did from her ability to get people out. "I think we're going to get a lot of signature cards (of support) tonight but I have no illusions about this," said Obama senior campaign adviser David Axelrod. Instead, he said Winfrey was driving out many people who don't typically attend political events. "She really scoops him up," he said.
It's annoying, annoying, annoying.

OBAMA FACT
What R U gona do.
It is important to set the facts straight about Democratic Senator Barack Obama.
There have been a number of e-mails circulating on the internet concerning his religious affiliations and patriotism to his country. We feel it's important to judge the man for his platforms and politics not mistruths spread on the internet.
Do check Snopes.com. Their site has been misquoted in smear e-mails. They disavow the lies in the e-mail. Whoever sent out that irresponsible e-mail was counting on the fact no one would bother to check their site.
Sadly, once you call a person something the damage has been done.
That is the reason we are asking you to forward this e-mail on to everyone you know. Whether or not you support Mr. Obama's campaign, it is important to support the truth.
THE FACTS:
- HE WAS NOT SWORN IN WITH THE KORAN. Please what idiot would do that at this time???? He is intentionally being confused with Minnesota congressman, Keith Ellison because he is African American.
- HE DOES PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG. He has led the pledge many times in the U.S. Senate. (check YouTube.com).
- "When he was a child in Indonesia, Obama spent a couple of years at a Catholic
school and another couple of years at a school that was predominantly Muslim
(because Indonesia itself is predominantly Muslim). In his 2006 book, The
Audacity of Hope, Obama elaborated on his early schooling, explaining that he
attended both Catholic and Muslim schools in Indonesia - not out of any
particular religious affiliation, but because his mother wanted him to obtain
the best education possible under the circumstances.
- No evidence supports the claim that Barack Obama is, despite his professed
Christianity, "an ideological Muslim," and those who have made this claim have
offered nothing to support it - no letters or documents in which Barack Obama
has ever stated such, no reports of conversations in which he ever admitted
such, no revelations from friends or associates that he ever demonstrated such."-Off Rumorsno.com.
I am not sure where or how these lies begin but I suspect they originate in fear.
It is our moral obligation to check the facts and spread the truth.
