Man, it's plunged; my critical point of view: I'm sorry who lost their retirement savings.
But, for long run, it's very healthy and was needed much more strict restriction.
It's time for changes.
Hey, don't spend money, unless you really need it.
Money's value has lost 30% as well as stock market today.
Spending is not the solution that current administration was rooting for.
But choice who has been made.
We knew it.

Subject: FW: Palin (it came from my best friend)

Friends, compatriots, fellow-lamenters,

We are writing to you because of the fury and dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce-on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate-that has a real possibility of becoming fact.

Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms. Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present or future daughters. To date, she is against sex education, birth control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she wanted to ban books and attempted to fire the librarian who stood against her), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of real preparation to become the second-most-powerful person on the planet.

We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a w oman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager, but solely as a rash, incompetent, and altogether devastating choice for Vice President. Ms. Palin's political views are in every way a slap in the face to the accomplishments that our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers so fiercely fought for, and that we've so demonstrably benefited from.

First and foremost, Ms. Palin does not represent us. She does not demonstrate or uphold our interests as American women. It is presumed that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket could win over women voters. We want to disagree, publicly.

Therefore, we invite you to reply here, womensaynopalin(add@)gmail.com, with a short, succinct message about why you, as a woman living in this country, do not support this candidate as second-in-command for our nation. Please include your name (last initial is fine) and place of residence. We will post your responses on a blog called 'Women Against Sarah Palin,' which we intend to publicize as widely as possible. Please send us your reply at your earliest convenience-the greater the volume of responses we receive, the stronger our message will be.

Thank you for your time and action.
Sincerely,

womensaynopalin(add@)gmail.com

Eve Ensler

I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears.Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar bears.

I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent mylife trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.

But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.

I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never recover. But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with regularity.

Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as a metaphor. In her world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or gets better or evolves. She does not believe in global warming. The melting of the arctic, the storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of cancers, are all part of God's plan. She is fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, 'It was a task from God.'

Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.

She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.

Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking. From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference. This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.

Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.

Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her private right. But when God and Guns come together in the public sector, when war is declared in God's name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.

I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence through invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us from dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on education and healthcare or whether we build more and more methods of killing. It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression.

If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke at the RNC, 'Drill Drill Drill.' I think of teeth when I think of drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.

Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone, in the floor of the sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?

Bone-chilling video on McCain

The Republican Party, in the form of Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Rice, has stoked fear in American citizens by pounding into us a message of menace and war.

If for a moment you think this election is about Sarah Palin, hockey-momdom, and how qualified she is - DON'T LOSE SIGHT OF THE REAL ISSUE!

THIS ELECTION IS ABOUT BUSH-MCCAIN!

McCain is running on the same sort of fear-mongering that won Bush-Cheney another four years. Except that in his case, the fear-mongering is less craven - because he is first and foremost a military warrior who believes the first, best, and only solution is the threat and prosecution of war.

IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT FOR ANOTHER FOUR YEARS?

Sarah Palin is NOT the issue. Don't get distracted.

The issue is Bush-McCain!

If you're inclined to think otherwise, please watch this video. Then forward it as widely as you can.

Thank you.

Vladimir Putin accuses Bush of provoking Georgia conflict to help John McCain

Vladimir Putin accused President Bush tonight of orchestrating the war in Georgia in a plot to get John McCain elected to the White House.

In his most explosive allegation since the South Ossetia crisis erupted, the Russian Prime Minister said that the United States had provoked the conflict to aid the Republican candidate, who is an outspoken critic of the Kremlin.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will salute the life and career of director Akira Kurosawa during a three-month celebration that will include a retrospective screening series and a new exhibition showcasing the director's original artwork, which has rarely been seen outside of Japan. The kickoff will be Thursday, September 18, at 8 p.m., when the Academy will premiere of a new restoration of the 1950 masterpiece "Rashomon" in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Hosted by Los Angeles Times film critic Kenneth Turan, the evening will include a panel discussion with Kurosawa's collaborators, friends and family, including son Hisao Kurosawa, who is the head of Kurosawa Productions. Following the film and discussion, the new exhibition "Akira Kurosawa: Film Artist" will be unveiled in the Academy galleries in Beverly Hills.

Akira Kurosawa was my mentor.

2 more weeks

wow!
Just 2 more weeks.
It'll be over.
Labor day is September 1st. we got robbed this year.

Georgia's news is disturbing and we were expected somethin' that will happens.
Is solution the only war?

In march 5th, I got news from times and says:
The New York Times announced Monday (March 3rd 2008)that defense contractor United Technologies had made an unsolicited bid to take control of Diebold, the voting machine manufacturer. UTC first approached Diebold two years ago, but thankfully Diebold has and continues to reject its offers.

But the most interesting and frightening part of this story is in the connection between the attempted takeover of a voting machine manufacturer and the Republican candidate John McCain.

Uber-lobbyist Charlie Black is the chairman of BKSH a 'bipartisan' Washington based firm that provides government relations services to a number of Domestic and International clients. While he is on the BKSH payroll, Black lobbies in his spare time as well; His clients include General Motors, JPMorgan, AT&T and none other than United Technologies! But what Charlie Black is most well-known for is that he is chief political adviser to John McCain.

I personally believe that there is something very wrong with the the country when the man who advises the Republican candidate for president also advises the company trying a to take control of voting machines manufacturer. (unsuccessfully it must be said. I am not in the position to speculate about Diebold's involvement in the affair and am merely making a comment on the rather frightening connection between UTC and McCain.)

Japan

I haven't updated this blog for long time, it's been busy writing in English on Digital issue on some article.

The reason is nothing to write about daily life in English and also I kept writing in Japanese, it became routine.
Oh well.
It's boring.

My life in general, everything is digital cinema making.
I can write several books about digital life.

A few days ago, I had some errand to do in Japan.
It was like an old days, day-trip feeling; I can stand in Japan for maximum stay is 3 days.
If it's longer than 3 days, I don't go there.

RED ONE CAMERA TEST IS DONE

It's done; I've finished 2 long months technical test for RED ONE.

Also, I waited to get all my accessories, which I need for my shoot.
One more thing is EVF (Electric View Finder) is back order and I have to wait another few months.

The biggest withdraw is: I can't get prime lenses, which cost too much and drains my wallet pretty hard.
One master prime lens cost 30grand, I rather rent out from the rental house, when I need it.

So my filters are set, and minimum lighting is also all set.

I have some simple job is coming up this week; it'll my first try out job.
Hope, everything goes well.

This picture came from RED ONE's footage, I grab one frame.

Utsushi-e

Beverly Hills, CA - Celebrating the centuries-old Japanese magic lantern tradition of Utsushi-e - a blend of moving images, light, color, music, storytelling and traditional art - the Minwa-za Company of Tokyo will make its American premiere performance on Wednesday, July 2, at 8 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. The program, presented by the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will re-create and examine the uniquely Japanese art form using reproductions of lanterns and slides of the Edo era.

Led by Minwa-za of Tokyo director Fumio Yamagata, the evening will include a technical presentation on the inner workings of the Utsushi-e rear-projection technology as well as a demonstration of the skills required for a performance.

Created more than a century before the invention of film, Utsushi-e represents one of the earliest forms of projection technology and in many respects is a forerunner of modern filmmaking. In contrast to traditional Western magic lantern shows, which used single-lantern front projection, Japanese magic lantern shows relied on a combination of fixed and hand-held rear-projection techniques, drawing on some elements of European phantasmagoria and incorporating the traditions of Asian shadow shows and puppet theater.

© A.M.P.A.S.

Utsushi-e used six or more magic lanterns positioned behind a long semi-transparent paper screen. The lanterns and slides were constructed of balsa wood, making them lightweight and easy to manipulate; in some cases slides with moving parts were also used. Utsushi-e performers developed elaborate projection techniques whose effects might be described in filmmaking terms as cuts, fades, dissolves, double exposures and zooms.

Established in 2003 by the Academy's Board of Governors, the Science and Technology Council provides a forum for the exchange of information, promotes cooperation among diverse technological interests within the industry, sponsors publications, fosters educational activities and preserves the history of science and technology of motion pictures.

Tickets to "The Minwa-za Company of Tokyo" are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. Tickets are available for purchase by mail, at the Academy box office, or online at www.oscars.org. Doors open at 7 p.m. All seating is unreserved.

The Linwood Dunn Theater is located at 1313 Vine Street in Hollywood. Free parking is available through the entrance on Homewood Avenue (one block north of Fountain Avenue).

For additional information, visit www.oscars.org or call (310) 247-3600.

Playing with new toy

Since I got new camera that calls it "RED ONE," I'm blasting my time!

Well, truth is:
It's new technologies, and I'm learning everyday.
It's movie-making tool and it's digital tool, so it's a computer in a movie camera with real cine-lens on it.
It's RED DIGITAL CINEMA CAMERA.

It works like a 35 mm movie camera and without developing negative, I can see the result.
It calls digital cinema camera, it's not video camera.
The reason that it call digital cinema camera, the image is captured in a sensor that same as modern days video camera, but after captured by image sensor, all image became digital signal and converted complicated change the pattern of the algorithm to raw image recorded on a solid state media, it's like expensive single reflex digital still camera's raw capturing image.
If you know the fact, check:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAW_image_format

You can understand clearly.

So, I am very happy and doing lot of test shooting, and will be shoot first project in a month.

IT'S SO MUCH FUN!

After few years latter

From next week, I'll start using new camera, not Leica M8, I'll use Red One Digital Cinema Camera and will extract a few frame from digital file.

And I'll rename my company's name also, I could not use Antenna Films Incorporated anymore, because, Scott B's LA company registered the name before me, it's too bad.
I haven't checked registration's trade mark office yet.
I have to use my corporate until officially changed, but antenna means shipyard in old Greek, so I'll use antenna some place.
Funahara literally means shipyard.

I found happy old days photo with Mark and his funny happy friends.
It was happy days, indeed.
