Zeiss SLR lenses
Another exciting news are Zeiss starts making SLR lenses,
Their press release said:
Carl Zeiss Announces Special Series of ZF Lenses
Optical systems for applications in the near infrared range
OBERKOCHEN/Germany - November 6, 2007.
Following the great success of the ZF lens series in industrial applications, Carl Zeiss now announces an additional model. The ZF-IR lenses were developed for special applications in the near infrared range. The Planar T* 1,4/85 ZF-IR and Distagon T* 2,8/25 ZF-IR are the first products in this special series of the familiar ZF lenses.
The Planar T* 1,4/85 ZF-IR and Distagon T* 2,8/25 ZF-IR lenses offer all the benefits of the ZF series. They feature a high-quality mechanical design, and their optical elements are made entirely of glass. The lenses are extremely fast and provide excellent contrast. The all-metal focusing device ensures precise and easy operation.
A special coating which is transmissible for wavelengths up to 1,100 nanometers is applied to enable photos in the near infrared range. Of course, the focusing scale has also been matched to this wavelength range. The ZF-IR lenses from Carl Zeiss are suitable for use with special cameras (IR cameras without a barrier filter). Application fields of technical IR photography include, in particular, forensic police tasks.
I am looking for quality and have edges, I'm very happily turn to "classic" lenses; many guys are looking for high-quality lenses for use on digital SLR cameras (DSLR) cameras - and manual focusing is also essential for me.
Digital SLR cameras, too, are turning to full size sensors which image the entire 35 mm format.
But in the case of many lenses, this just reveals the weaknesses around the edge of the picture.
To me, to get back into single ref stuff, I love to use Zeiss stuff and even I can use for my new Digital Cinema Camera.
